      Montpelier & Surrounding Towns

Montpelier VT State House Montpelier, Vermont's Capitol and Washington County shire town, is the commercial & political heart of the Green Mountains and a charming New England City. This treasure trove of creative expression features the New England Culinary Institute (NECI). Music, theater and dance are popular, especially with the Contemporary Dance Studio located at the heart of the city and twin city Barre close by with its Opera House and the outstanding Cornerstone Pub & Kitchen.

Multiple public and private schools span the city including a Waldorf School. Montpelier is by population (about 8,000) the nation’s smallest state capitol but easy to underestimate, full of appeal including the Vermont State House, Vermont College of Fine Arts, Green Mountain Film Festival, Lost Nation Theater, Kellogg-Hubbard Library, Vermont History Museum and alternative Savoy movie theater.

Find yourself ordering the Heartbreaker Crepe at the Skinny Pancake in the morning, a croissant at La Brioche, lunch at Salt or Kismet Kitchen, a plate of pad thai at the Royal Orchid as the day comes to an end followed by drinks at the Three Penny Tap Room or Black Door. Or home cook a delicious meal with ingredients bought from the Farmer's Market or the organic produce and food stocked Hunger Mountain Co-op, and don’t miss the Morse Farm Maple Sugar Works Maple Festival or a stay at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.

Satellite towns include Barre, East Montpelier, Middlesex, Berlin, Northfield, Plainfield, Marshfield, & Roxbury. Burlington, Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Bolton Valley, Jay and Killington are all within reach. With St. Johnsbury, the North East Kingdom to the north and Northfield's Norwich University to the south, Montpelier offers so much.

Amtrak’s Vermonter runs through Montpelier Junction from Washington DC to St. Albans, Vermont and the city includes Edward F. Knapp state airport. Burlington International Airport is a 30 minute drive.
