      Mount Snow, Wilmington & Dover

Southern Vermont's premier ski area just north of the Massachusetts line in the Deerfield Valley, Mount Snow has the name for all north country lovers.

Snow! That precious commodity Vermonters and flatlanders cherish. From the first magical flakes to the spring mush, diehard skiiers that don't want to travel too far embrace this fantastic resort which is getting better and better.

Milder deep winter temps allow skiing more comfortably (or in a swim suit) and without getting frostbitten. Great snowmaking, outstanding grooming ops, modern facilities with 20 lifts, 600 acres and 3,600 feet of elevation. The six person bubble Bluebird Express lift is like something out of the Dolomites. Pick up an Epic pass for unlimited  access to Vail, Breckenridge, Park City, Whistler Blackcomb and limited access to partner resorts in North America, Europe and Japan.

Mount Snow is in Dover, owned by Vail Resorts and features the main face, Sunbrook, North Face for the black diamonds, & Carinthia for terrain parks and the spectacular Vermont Vernacular Carinthia base lodge that inspires. The huge masonry fireplace outside warms you up even in January in front of the shiplap siding and glass architecture.

Just south of Dover and Mount Snow on Haystack Mountain is the exclusive Hermitage Club offering private skiing and boarding for a select membership with zero lift lines. The 90,000 square foot Austin Design post & beam lodge is stunning. 4 lifts including a heated six pack bubble chair lead to 1,400 feet of vertical across 200 skiable acres.

This member-owned, non-profit ski area has white birch glades and a wide variety of terrain on an intimate scale, continuing the original Haystack Mountain tradition which opened in 1964 for an off the beaten path alternative to busier Vermont ski areas. It is a weekend resort, operating Friday through Sunday and during holiday weeks.

South of the Heritage Club is the Desmond Muirhead designed 18 hole Haystack Golf Course & Stack Restaurant with a fully stocked pro shop. Wilmington is just south near Harriman Reservoir between Brattleboro and Bennington on Route 9. In addition to easy access to Mount Snow, Hogback Mountain's 100 mile view over a Barenaked Brewery draught is spectacular and Molly State Park offers exceptional hiking.

Eclectic culinary options, rich history and a quaint village to explore, Wilmington is just two hours and 40 minutes from Boston and an hour and a quarter from NYC for short weekend escapes. Duck empanadas at the Social, eye candy at the Sawmill or relax and call the Nomad chefs for catering. Chimney Hill's four season resort (call Maple Sweet for showings) has modestly priced homes, undeveloped lots to build on and wonderful family facilities including a pond, streams, tennis courts and a big recreation center with extra room to spread your wings.

Catch live music over dinner Saturday nights at the Snow Barn and ice skate at the Hermitage Inn. Summer fun includes the Mount Snow Bike ParkMount Snow Golf ClubScenic Chairlift Rides, an Outdoor Exploration Camp and the Vermont Blueberry Festival. Take the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge, catch a flick at the Dover Cinema & Arts or rent a jet ski and get out on the water.
