Home to elite liberal arts Middlebury College founded in 1800 with its exceptional foreign language program and seat of a thriving economy, Middlebury and the surrounding areas are off the western slope of the Green Mountains facing New York’s Adirondacks across Lake Champlain with great light and sunsets. The Middlebury area includes the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History, the unforgettable Middlebury College Breadloaf Campus, its Rikert Nordic Center for cross country skiing, the Skylight Pond Trailhead in Ripton, Middlebury Gap Long Trail, Robert Frost Interpretive Trail, and the Middlebury Snow Bowl ski area. The Champlain Valley is an easy shot to Burlington.
Points of interest include, Danforth Pewter, Vermont Folk Life Center, the UVM Morgan Horse Farm, the Lincoln Peak Vineyard, the Emma Willard Memorial, and Middlebury Airport. Bristol is a bridge between the Mad River Valley and Middlebury with a population of just under 3,800. The Otter Creek tributary flows out of the mountains through the town center.
